Blowing Rock Academy Achieves Perfect Score, Earns 5-Star Rating

Blowing Rock, NC – The Blowing Rock Academy has proudly announced that it has received a perfect 15 out of 15 score and is now a licensed 5-star center. This prestigious rating comes from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Division of Child Development, which rates childcare centers based on three key areas: Staff Education, Program Standards, and Quality Points. The Academy achieved the maximum points in each of these categories, demonstrating its commitment to providing exceptional care and education for young children.

The Blowing Rock Academy opened its doors in March 2024 to serve the children of the employees of the Town of Blowing Rock. While not open to the public, the Academy offers a high-quality childcare program that operates Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM to 5:30 PM and has a capacity of 30 children.

The Town of Blowing Rock would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the Town Council, the Academy Staff, and the staff of Park and Recreation for their hard work and dedication in making this achievement possible. Their commitment to providing a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for young children is truly commendable.  For more information, please contact: Shane Fox, Town Manager, 1036 Main Street, Blowing Rock, NC 28605 -828-295-5200

New Police Chief

In case you are not tuned in to the TOBR You Tube channel for Tuesday’s Council meeting, this is to let you know that Nathan Kirk, the interim police chief and the internal candidate, has been selected to be the new TOBR police chief, replacing Aaron Miller who retired at the end of 2023.  There were 85 applicants from around the country; Nathan was unanimously approved by the selection committee.  BRCA board member Laura Bingham made an excellent presentation (as herself) about the need for continued vigilance on Valley Blvd for speeding and public safety, especially on the sidewalks.  Please watch her on the video archive when you get a chance.  She made a number of excellent points.  Thank you for that contribution, Laura.
Best regards to all,
Jane Whitt Sellers
