We have posted the 2023 Blowing Rock Candidate Forum on our website. There is Part 1, Part 2, and Questions from the Audience. A total of three videos. Unfortunately, we lost about 5 minutes of the beginning of the Questions portion due to an audio issue. Our apologies. We hope you enjoy the videos. At the Council meeting this past Tuesday night the current Council was very complimentary of the Forum, the structure of the questions and the size of the audience. Mrs. Pickett remarked that in all her years of attending and being involved in the various forums this was the best one she had attended in structure and the largest attendance in recent memory.
Issues addressed included Downtown Parking, Short Term Rental, Downtown Development, Ambulance Transport Service, Workforce Housing, Infrastructure, and the 2024 Comprehensive Plan. Each candidate had an opportunity to provide an opening and closing statement.
Those in attendance were also very complimentary. We know of people who attended and said it gave them better insights into the candidates and their views, even to the point of changing their preferences for voting. That’s how democracy works. We sincerely appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce and commend the “job well done” by the Leadership Challenge Alumni.
Yesterday BRCA posted a video tutorial under “BRCA 28605” on the Absentee Ballot Process in NC for 2023. We also posted under “NEWS” on our website the written instructions, a five-step process for completing the process and all necessary available links. There are also details regarding Early Voting locations for Watauga and Caldwell Counties which begins on October 19th.
We want to thank the candidates for participating in the Forum, The Blowing Rock Chamber and Leadership Challenge Alumni for the opportunity to collaborate on this important event, and most of all the voters that attended the Forum. It was the largest crowd for a Candidate Forum in recent memory.
